English version A thousand years of Chinese reign. A hundred years of French domain. Twenty years fighting brothers each day, A mother's fate, left for her child, A mother's fate, a land defiled. A thousand years of Chinese reign. A hundred years of French domain. Twenty years fighting brothers each day, A mother's fate, bones left to dry, And graves that fill a mountain high. Refrain: Teach your children to speak their minds. Don't let them forget their kind-- Never forget their kind, from old Viet land. Mother wait for your kids to come home, Kids who now so far away roam. Children of one father, be reconciled. A thousand years of Chinese reign. A hundred years of French domain. Twenty years fighting brothers each day. A mother's fate, our fields so dead, And rows of homes in flames so red. A thousand years of Chinese reign. A hundred years of French domain. Twenty years fighting brothers each day. A mother's fate, her kids half-breeds, Her kids filled with disloyalty. English version Tomorrow you'll go. The sea will call your name. Whistling the willow trees. White sands whisper your voice. Tomorrow you'll go. The mountains will remain. The stones count passing time, echoing your footsteps. Tomorrow you'll go. The sea remembers your past. The waves will recall your soul. The wind will welcome rains. Tomorrow you'll go. Street lamps will dim their lights. Blue rain will weep softly. The ocean storm will come. When you are here, it seems like music, in tune with nature, one love song they play. Tomorrow you'll go. The sea will call your name. Foggy nights will have bad dreams. The sky lean on the hills. Tomorrow you'll go. The waves will hug green moss. The streets will cry rain tears. Grey clouds cover the town. Tomorrow you'll go. The ocean will wonder, rainy day or summer time, when will you come back. Tomorrow you'll go. The town forgets to sleep. Spring time forgets to come. The wind will holler storm. English lyrics written by : Mary MinhHằng Vesely

about

The collection of songs at your fingertips was banned in Vietnam after 1975. Legendary composers and songwriters make up the era of “Nhạc Vàng” or Yellow music.

During times of war, these songs of love, loss and liberty touched many.

Grandma’s café and phở shop in Saigon continued to play Nhạc Vàng despite the ban. The shop became a bustling hub for young artists and musicians – a community was born.

Hand picked, are nostalgic yet celebrated pieces by Trịnh Công Sơn, Hoàng Thi Thơ, and Phạm Duy to name a few. Remixed are beats of funk, reggae and house that will tap into your imagination for Vietnamese music.
